Churches speak on Immigration

“Immigration questions are questions dealing with God’s children,” Marlin Jensen, a Mormon Church leader, said in a speech at Westminster College. Jensen said the church has addressed Utah’s overwhelmingly Mormon Legislature, asking government officials to “slow down, step back and carefully study and assess the implications and human costs involved” in immigration reform.Other churches are also voicing support for laws protecting illegal immigrants.

(It is time for churches get back to preaching the Bible. The Mormon church is not only wrong on doctrine but those who think it is ok for people who have come to our nation in a non lawful way are wrong. To his credit Gov. Romney ( a Mormon )  spoke out against those who came to America in a non lawful way when he was running for President. The Mormon church and others who support souls who have come to America in non legal way need to accept that no one is above the law. Read more on this issue Churches speak on immigration.)

CNN employees told to soften their coverage of Fidel Castro's resignation

(Below is part of an email which was sent to the CNN staff.)
From: Flexner, Allison Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2008 7:46 AM To: *CNN Superdesk (TBS) Cc: Neill, Morgan; Darlington, Shasta Subject: Castro guidance
Some points on Castro - for adding to our anchor reads/reporting:
Please say in our reporting that Castro stepped down in a letter he wrote to Granma (the communist party daily), as opposed to in a letter attributed to Fidel Castro. We have no reason to doubt he wrote his resignation letter, he has penned numerous articles over the past year and a half.
Please note Fidel did bring social reforms to Cuba - namely free education and universal health care, and racial integration. in addition to being criticized for oppressing human rights and freedom of speech.
(I wonder what good CNN would have said about Hitler. I guess some of the trains were on time when these two men were in power. Read the whole email if  you like CNN & The Castro E-Mail.)

Huckabee: A Deadlocked Convention is My Goal

In an interview with 1200 WOAI news during his swing through Texas, longshot Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outlined a strategy which has him not winning the GOP nomination outright, but pushing the nomination to the September Republican National Convention, which he says will turn to him as the most ‘conservative alternative.

(Read the whole intervew here.     Now as I have posted before I have liked Huckabee but I believe this new idea could hurt his party. I hope he will rethink this idea unless the numbers between him and McCain have a giant  change. )

McCain hopes Castro to "meet Marx soon"

Republican presidential front-runner John McCain suggested on Friday that he hoped retired Cuban leader Fidel Castro would die soon and said Castro's brother will be a worse leader.
"I hope he has the opportunity to meet Karl Marx very soon," McCain told a town-hall style meeting of about 150 people, referring to communist theoretician Marx who died on March 14, 1883.
(Read more on this story McCain hopes Castro to meet Marx soon | Politics | Reuters. While I don't believe we should take joy in the death of evil people I do understand what Senator McCain is saying. He is also cloer to be right than Michael Moore who wants to bring Castro to America.)

Don't Ask for Your Money Back at a Public School

I was at a 8th grade basketball game last Saturday morning at a public middle school here in my city and this sign was on a pop machine. My question is why do they even have a pop machine if they aren't going to stand by it.
Some of us feel like the  government schools have  put these signs up when it comes to education of our youth.

Michael Moore: Bring Castro To Oscars

Believe it or not  Michael Moore wants to bring Castro to the  Oscars. Don't take my word for it watch the video here .
Too bad Mr. Moore hasn't spent his time trying to bring those in Cuba jails to America or at least letting the people of Cuba tell him the truth about the government which he loves.
This proves once again Mr. Moore and  his followers are out of touch with  the everyday American.

Cal Thomas Wants to Rederfine Conservatism

This news just in Reagan is dead.

Yes you read me right. The right needs to look to others besides him. That is a point Cal Thomas makes in a column. I am going to post part of the column below.

"This just in: Ronald Reagan is dead and he's not coming back. Now, can conservatives please move on?

Reagan always spoke about the future and its possibilities. Today's conservatives, however, can't seem to break with the past and the nostalgia for the Reagan years. Even in his letter to the American people in 1994 in which he revealed he suffered from Alzheimer's disease, Reagan wrote of his "eternal optimism" for the country's future."

"John McCain, some say, is not a true conservative. Was Reagan? Reagan campaigned as a tax cutter. He cut taxes, but he also raised them. He promised conservative judges and spoke of his opposition to abortion, yet named two justices to the Supreme Court (Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy) who voted to uphold Roe v. Wade. Against the advice of some, Reagan deployed Marines to Lebanon and saw them murdered by a homicide bomber. Reagan engaged in an arms-for-hostages deal with Iran. As president, Reagan seldom went to church, unlike his evangelical base. If conservatives knew in advance these things about Reagan, would they have voted for him in such numbers? "

"Contemporary conservatism has mostly been about saying "no" to the liberal agenda. Suppose conservatives instead begin to circumvent liberals by applying better ideas to achieve ends liberals and conservatives claim to seek?"
"This is the point of David Frum's new book, "Comeback: Conservatism That Can Win Again." Frum proposes an agenda that uses conservative principles to actually solve, rather than just talk about, serious problems. He wants universally available health insurance, but offered through the private sector; a campaign for prison reform and a campaign against obesity; higher ethical standards inside the conservative movement and Republican Party; and a renewed commitment to expand and rebuild the armed forces in order to crush terrorism and prepare for the coming challenge from China."

If those on the right want to win they shouldn't change what they believe but they do need to add to their agenda. Do read the whole column Cal Thomas wrote Redefining Conservatism.

Life Under A Dictator

“Growing up in Zimbabwe, I dreamed of being a teacher.  My mother taught elementary school, and I was inspired by the world of ideas. When I was young, my country was a highly educated society with a strong economy. We had plenty of food to eat and a sense of freedom.”
“Everything changed under Mugabe’s rule.”
"I decided I couldn’t go on pretending that everything was fine. As a teacher responsible for young minds, I felt I had an obligation to speak out. But immediately after I began to talk about the political situation, I got phone calls telling me to stop. Spies were placed in my classroom. I was followed and could go out only with a group for my own safety. "
"Then one day I was sitting in my office when six police officers showed up and dragged me out in handcuffs in front of my students and colleagues."
(The above is from a column which last Sunday was published in Parade Magazine last Sunday. Too often us here in the West and in America don't have any idea what it is like to live under a dictator. Shame on us for saying the people of Cuba, Zimbabwe , and places with other dictators are happy and not every nation should be like America. Perhaps some on the left who think that way should have to go live in one of those nations. Do read the whole column called about One man’s escape from the tyrant of Zimbabwe,  here . )

Michelle Obama for the first time is proud of her nation

Michelle Obama for the first time is proud of her nation. Those aren't my words but her own words. Watch her say it for yourself  "For The First Time...I'm Proud of My Country". Doesn't  she see the good we have done. Her words could end up hurting her along with her husband.

Castro

An ailing, 81-year-old Fidel Castro resigned as Cuba's president Tuesday after nearly a half-century in power, saying he will not accept a new term when parliament meets Sunday."My wishes have always been to discharge my duties to my last breath," Castro wrote in a letter published Tuesday in the online edition of the Communist Party daily Granma. But, he wrote, "it would be a betrayal to my conscience to accept a responsibility requiring more mobility and dedication than I am physically able to offer."
In the pre-dawn hours, most Cubans were unaware of Castro's message, and Havana's streets were quiet. It wasn't until 5 a.m., several hours after Castro's message was posted on the internet, that official radio began reading the missive to early risers.
(Read more of the above story Fidel Castro Resigns As Cuba's President.  This is something many souls including myself have been praying for. I have prayed change Castro's heart or remove him from power. That is the same prayer I have prayed for other leaders who don't care about human rights. Now we need to pray that the people of Cuba would be 100% free  including having the freedom to speak against their government and to have faith in God if they so desire.Lets also pray that Castro starts to think about his life and repents for his evil acts. I don't know if this will change things in Cuba but one cna hope and pray it will.

Cubans Demanding Liberties

Taking up Raul Castro's invitation to speak their minds without fear of reprisal, more Cubans have begun publicly complaining and challenging government policies on everything from limits on Internet access to travel restrictions. This week some leading figures called for change: Culture Minister Abel Prieto said that he supports gay marriage, and famed folk singer Silvio Rodriguez said he believes all Cubans should be free to travel abroad and stay in the hotels reserved for foreign tourists. Open challenges of government authority remain rare in Cuba, where the Communist Party dominates all levels of power. But since replacing his older brother Fidel as acting president, Raul Castro has urged Cuban citizens to help shape their country's economic future.
(Read more of the above story  here. We all should be watching what is taking place in Cuba and praying that in the near future it will be a free nation.

Don't Vote Your Feelings. Vote Who the Person Is

Joan Vennochi has written a great column on how people are forgetting their judgments and letting their feelings be won over by Obama. Part of the column is below.

"HILLARY CLINTON isn't the only one crying on the campaign trail. So is Bob Schieffer."The veteran CBS news anchor recently told radio host Don Imus he got all choked up watching the inspirational "Yes We Can" video, which boosts Barack Obama's candidacy."

"Some big media names are getting goosebumps thinking about the next Camelot. They're not shy about yearning to turn the clock back to JFK and the 1960s, rather than to the Clintons and the 1990s."

"It should be scrutiny time for Obama, even if only as a helpful exercise in vetting him, if he is the Democrat to face John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee."

"Other questions, just for the sake of political argument: Do endorsements from the liberal Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts and from the ultra-liberal political action organization, MoveOn.org., come with a downside in the general election? The National Journal just released a listing that ranked Obama as the most liberal senator in 2007. Have the old labels truly lost their ability to zing?"

Great thoughts from Joan Vennochi. Do read the whole column  here . We are about to elect the person who will lead this nation not some person who can make us feel good. We need to look at who are the people running, what have they done and what their views are. Leave your feelings at home when you vote.

Parents upset over school background checks

A local school  leader has upset some parents what has he done? Had sex with a student, fire a good teacher? Nope.
Carolyn McKinley, whose son and daughter attend Plattsmouth Nebraska  Elementary School, said she was shocked  when her second-grade daughter brought home a security form for her to fill out.
The form, McKinley said, was required for her to be allowed to bring food and attend her children's Valentine's Day parties.
"I am just another parent, and I don't understand why I should have to give the school a lot of very personal information, including my Social Security number, to sit in the back of the class and watch the kids eat treats," McKinley said. "They are asking for information which I think is inappropriate."
The ACLU is looking into the matter. This is one time when a government school is doing right. Youth sports teams today have to do back ground checks on their volunteer coaches and even some churches are having to do that so why shouldn't a public school do the same. Yes perhaps the school should allow parents to bring food to a party without being checked but still the school is right. When it comes to children schools and all of us have to be careful. No one should be above the rules including parents. Think about this what if the school didn't do this and some parent did something  horrible to a child while at the school. Better to be safe than sorry and better to upset some parents and keep kids safe. As a person who has gone through some checks they are painless.

Senator Barack Obama as "one of the most pro-choice presidential contenders in history.

.Below is part of a column written by Jill Stanek.
I am an Obama supporter. I am also pro-life. So says Frank Schaeffer, New York Times best selling author of the book Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back.
"Today when I listen to Obama speak (and to his remarkable wife, Michelle) what I hear is a world view that actually nurtures life. Obama is trying to lead this country to a place where the intrinsic worth of each individual is celebrated. A leader who believes in hope, the future, trying to save our planet and providing a just and good life for everyone is someone who is actually pro-life."
Which Obama is he listening to?
From the Washington Times:Mr. Obama is also one of the most pro-choice presidential contenders in history. His 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council as a state senator was just the beginning. Mr. Obama is known in pro-life circles for arguing cold-bloodedly on the Illinois Senate floor that babies who survive botched late-term abortions should not be considered "persons" because this would be tantamount to admitting "that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a -- a child, a 9-month old -- child that was delivered to term." If you like to read the whole column go
here. We have gotten to come to the point that we are voting for the person who will lead this nation and impact our values not some person who makes us feel good.

Girls can do anything boys can do.

Have you ever heard the saying or perhaps you told this to your  daughter or a little girl in your life. Girls can do anything boys can do. Now nothing is wrong with encouraging the young women in your life but the fact is women and men were made differently. There are things men should do that women shouldn't do.Here in my home state of Nebraska there is a high school girl who is wrestling against boys.
What do I think of this? To find out my thoughts click on the following link to watch a video I did on my You Tube page
