Questions for Obama

Paul Sperry has 30 plus "fantasy questions" he hopes will be asked of Barack Obama in tonight's debate. Some of my favorites are listed below.
1. You say unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers is just a guy from your old Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Have you or Michelle ever entertained either Bill Ayers or his (cop-assaulting) wife at your old condo there, or at your new home?
2. You say you were just 8 years old when Ayers bombed the U.S. Capitol. How old were you when you first learned he was the guy who did what he did when you were 8?

6. Where were you on 9/11, and what was your immediate, visceral reaction to those attacks? You said in the 2004 preface to your reprinted "Dreams" memoir that "history returned that day with a vengeance," and that "the past is never dead and buried." What did you mean by those remarks?

9. Your campaign says you were never "hired" to train ACORN leaders in agitation tactics. Did you ever train them on a voluntary basis

16. Do you believe Hamas is a terrorist group?

17. In 1995, you said, "Reagan and his minions did dirty deeds." What were those "dirty deeds" you speak of, and what is your opinion of the late president today?

18. Your ex-pastor Wright believes "racism is how America is still run." Do you believe that's true today?

29. Tell us about your relationship with Louis Farrakhan. Have you ever met with him one-on-one?

McCain needs to Fight: Upset Voter

At the end of last week I was excited to see some voters telling McCain he needs to go more on the attack against Obama. To me this doesn't mean dirty politics but bring up issues including how radical Mr. Obama is.
Watch this video and see what you think. upset voter

Good for these voters. It is one thing to run a clean campaign but it is another to run a too nice campaign. McCain needs to bring up how radical Obame  is and what he would do for America including higher taxes, and more judges who will make laws from the bench instead of following the law of the land.)

priest's stance against anti-gay-marriage proposition roils church

A week ago, Father Geoffrey Farrow stood before his Roman Catholic parishioners in Fresno and delivered a sermon that placed him squarely at odds with his church over gay marriage. ( priest's stance against anti-gay-marriage proposition roils church  )

With Proposition 8 on the November ballot, and his own bishop urging Central Valley priests to support its definition of traditional marriage, Farrow told congregants he felt obligated to break "a numbing silence" about church prejudice against homosexuals.

"How is marriage protected by intimidating gay and lesbian people into loveless and lonely lives?" he asked parishioners of the St. Paul Newman Center. "I am morally compelled to vote no on Proposition 8."

Then Farrow -- who had revealed that he was gay during a television interview immediately before Mass -- added a coda to his sermon.

"I know these words of truth will cost me dearly," he said. "But to withhold them . . . I would become an accomplice to a moral evil that strips gay and lesbian people not only of their civil rights but of their human dignity as well."

On Thursday, Fresno Bishop John T. Steinbock removed Farrow, 50, as pastor of the St. Paul Newman Center, which primarily serves students and faculty at Cal State Fresno.

"Your statement contradicted the teaching of the Catholic Church and has brought scandal to your parish community as well as the whole Church," Steinbock wrote in a disciplinary letter that also admonished Farrow against "using the Internet as a means of continuing your conflict with the Church's teaching."

The priest also was stripped of his salary and benefits, and ordered to stay away from all church communities he had served.

(What was wrong with this firing?  When you go against a moral teaching of your church on same sex marriage what do you expect. Also where is the out cry for this spiritual leader preaching on an election issue inside of  a church. And  with all the trouble in the Catholic Church  by some priests having sex with boys why should the church be  forced to have a gay priest unless that priest is willing to forsake his gay life.)

(I don't know if I agree with him being forces to stay away from all church communities but perhaps the Bishop is concerned he will just start trouble if he went to them. )

Mormon leader urges focus on 'shared truth'

Mormons should strive for unity at home, in the church and with those whose backgrounds and opinions differ from Latter-day Saints, a senior church leader said.

Henry B. Eyring, the senior counselor in the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said at the faith's semiannual General Conference that the divisions that come with increased conflict among people around the world could "infect" Mormons.

"More regrettable than the church being accused of not being Christian is when church members react to such accusations in an un-Christlike way," Hales said. "Surely our Heavenly Father is saddened — and the devil laughs — when we contentiously debate doctrinal differences with our Christian neighbors."

(Now there is some truth for us who are evangelical  followers of Jesus can learn from this Mormon leader.  We need to show the love of God to others including our Mormon friends. At the same time we should never back away from telling others the truth. The truth is Mormons are not Christians. Not because we say so but because they don't agree with the Bible. Mormons believe they will go to Heaven because of their good works. The Bible teachers it is only by grace through faith in Christ that anyone makes it to Heaven. (check out Ephesians 2:8-9  )

(Mormons also have other views such as everyone of us will become a god someday. Check this site out to find out  about other views of this cult. (  The Plain Truth about the Mormons . To read more on what this Mormon leader said  go here.)

Chicago plans school for gay students.)

The head of Chicago's school system has proposed the creation of a "gay-friendly" high school to counter the high bullying, depression and drop-out rates among homosexual pupils. e head of Chicago's school system has proposed the creation of a "gay-friendly" high school to counter the high bullying, depression and drop-out rates among homosexual pupils.

The Pride Campus of Social Justice High School would be open to all students in the city, and would probably end up being "majority straight", said Arne Duncan, the head of Chicago Public Schools.

But it would provide a supportive atmosphere for gay pupils, using prominent gays and lesbians - including James Baldwin and Gertrude Stein - in its curriculum.

(Chicago government schools are not safe or are they teaching kids to read and write today, so why can't they focus on the basic stuff and not focus on a culture issue. This school also would hurt gay students because when they grow up they will have to deal with people who hate gays and those like myself who care about gays but  believe their lifestyle is hurting souls  including themselves.  Read more on this story Chicago plans school for gay students.)

Black Congressmen: Palin's Racist...

As the McCain campaign ratchets up the intensity of its attacks on Barack Obama, some black elected officials are calling the tactics desperate, unseemly and racist.(  Black Congressmen Declare Racism In Palin’s Rhetoric | The New York Observer )

“They are trying to throw out these codes,” said Representative Gregory Meeks, a Democrat from New York.

“He’s ‘not one of us?’” Mr. Meeks said, referring to a comment Sarah Palin made at a campaign rally on Oct. 6 in Florida. “That’s racial. That’s fear. They know they can’t win on the issues, so the last resort they have is race and fear.”

“Racism is alive and well in this country, and McCain and Palin are trying to appeal to that and it’s unfortunate,” said Representative Ed Towns, also from New York.

(So if you bring up anything about a black person running for office which has to do with their kinds of friends you are a racist. Where were these people when news about Rev, Wright hit. Could it be the Obama backers are afraid the American people will  find out Obama is part of the radical left in this nation. )

Pope: financial crisis shows futility of money

Pope Benedict XVI says the global financial crisis show the futility of money and ambition.  ( Pope: financial crisis shows futility of money - )

Benedict says that "now with the collapse of big banks we see that money disappears, is nothing and all these things that appear real are in fact of secondary importance." He urges those who build their lives "only on things that are visible, such as success, career, money" to keep that in mind.

(Amen Pope. Money and things can be taken away. However faith in God  and   love for family and friends  can last forever.)

Palin criticizes Obama's ties to Wright, Ayers

Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin expanded her attack on Democrat Barack Obama's character Monday to include his relationship with an incendiary former pastor as well as his ties to 1960s-era radical Bill Ayers. (  Palin criticizes Obama's ties to Wright, Ayers)

Palin toned down her description of the Obama-Ayers relationship after her weekend remarks were criticized as exaggerated, but at the same time she embarked on a discussion of Obama's relationship with his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., which Republican presidential candidate John McCain had signaled he did not want to be a part of his campaign.

In an interview with conservative The New York Times columnist William Kristol published Monday, the Alaska governor said there should be more discussion about Wright, Obama's pastor of 20 years at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. The Democratic candidate denounced Wright and severed ties with the church last spring after videotapes surfaced showing Wright making anti-American and anti-Semitic comments from the pulpit.

(Good for Palin. While I don't believe McCain should focus on these issues I do believe she is the right person to bring them up. Go Pitt- Bull.)

Kansas City middle school students pledging their political support

They're not old enough to vote, but a group of Kansas City middle school students pledging their political support is raising eyebrows.

A choreographed chant by a group of students at the Kansas City charter school Urban Community Leadership Academy has people talking ever since it showed up on the internet.
See the YouTube video here.

(I watched that video and thought they were about to say Obama walked on water and rose from the dead. No matter if he is elected or not Obama or any other leader is God though some  try to make them out to be.)

Churches and Politics

There is no telling how many churches actually participated in "Pulpit Freedom Sunday," an event designed to challenge the government's restriction on political pronouncements from the pulpit.

The Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative legal alliance of Christian attorneys, headed by President Alan E. Sears, whose activist roots go back to the 1980s, cooked up the idea. A press release from the organization promised that on Sept. 28 pastors in 20 states "will reclaim their constitutional right (and) from the pulpit, they will advise their congregation what scripture says about today's issues, apply(ing) those issues to the candidates standing for election just like their forefathers did 150 years ago."

(The above is part of a column Cal Thomas wrote. Read more of it below.)

The release might have added, "and just as many in some African-American churches do today, but without the pressure by the IRS, which many white conservative churches and institutions feel." Clearly a double standard exists as to how the law is applied (see the political pronouncements of Reverends Jeremiah Wright, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, as three of many examples.

The first obstacle is what Scripture teaches about a Christian's relationship to the state. In one of the best-known passages, Paul the Apostle writes, "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established." (Romans 13:1) Is defying the law, no matter what political motivations were behind it, submitting to such authority, or opposing it?

Obstacle number two has to do with the reason people attend worship services. It is not, or should not be, in order to pledge allegiance to a party, candidate or earthly agenda.

No matter how hard they try to protect the gospel from corruption, ministers who focus on politics and politicians as a means of redemption must minimize their ultimate calling and message. The road to redemption does not run through Washington, D.C. Politicians can't redeem themselves from the temptations of Washington. What makes anyone think they can redeem the rest of us?

This pulpit rebellion also presumes that congregants lack a worldview or knowledge about candidates and politics that only a pastor can address. In my church, we have many highly educated people, Republicans and Democrats, who would not take kindly to the pastor discoursing on politics anymore than they would accept legal or medical advice from their auto mechanic.

The law has done churches a favor, however inadvertent, by protecting most of them from the downside of electioneering, but a strong constitutional challenge would most likely overturn it. The flip side would be whether the politicians would then allow churches to maintain their tax-exempt status.

Whether the law is repealed, or not, churches and ministers would do better to keep their attention focused on the things above, rather than the things below, because politics can be the ultimate temptation and pollute a far superior and life-changing message.

(Cal is right there is a double standard  far as this law goes. Churches from the left don't get in as much trouble as those from the right, but he is also right churches need to focus on the Bible and that salvation can never come through politics it can only come through the Lord Jesus. When I go to church I want to hear about my Lord and His Word the Bible not who I should vote for or against. Read the whole column Pulpit Bullies.)

Palin Biden Debate 2008 (Running Against Bush)

I hope every American was able to watch the Vice Presidential Debate last night. If not or if you like to see it again I hope you will watch it on You Tube  Palin Biden Debate 2008.
One thing I took away from the debate is while Sen. Biden did not have any slip of the tongue which he is known for, he hasn't watched the news or read the newspaper in awhile because he kept talking about President Bush. Note to Biden Bush is not running again. McCain also has said his party did not cut spending like it should have and until a change was made on how we were fighting the Iraq war he was one big war critic. So no one should compare Bush and McCain.

TEACHERS TOLD NOT TO WEAR OBAMA BUTTONS

The teachers union has been handing out thousands of Barack Obama campaign buttons to its members, sparking a clampdown by education brass.

The Department of Education - which has a long-standing policy barring teachers from wearing campaign buttons in schools - is set to send out an e-mail this week from Schools Chancellor Joel Klein laying down the law.

"Schools are not a place for politics and not a place for staff to wear political buttons," said department spokeswoman Ann Forte.

(I have a silly idea why doesn't  the teachers union focus on making teachers better, and making schools better so the students can do a better job. It is an outrage that the teacher's union puts so much focus on politics from the left  that they forget what the kids need. Read more on this story TEACHERS TOLD NOT TO WEAR OBAMA BUTTONS.)
