Muslim outrage at police advert featuring cute puppy

A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman's hat advertising a Scottish police force's new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.

Tayside Police's new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community.

The choice of image on the Tayside Police cards - a black dog sitting in a police officer's hat - has now been raised with Chief Constable John Vine.

The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.

Dundee councillor Mohammed Asif said: 'My concern was that it's not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards.

'It was probably a waste of resources going to these communities.

'They (the police) should have understood. Since then, the police have explained that it was an oversight on their part, and that if they'd seen it was going to cause upset they wouldn't have done it.'

Councillor Asif, who is a member of the Tayside Joint Police Board, said that the force had a diversity adviser and was generally very aware of such issues.

He raised the matter with Mr Vine at a meeting of the board.

(Ok lets say this was a pig not a dog would Jewish people who believe pigs aren't clean get upset. Nope they would not. No one is asking followers of Islam to get a dog here. Why don't these followers of Islam get as upset when the 911 attacks happen or a nation run by a Muslim leader who doesn't give human rights to anyone including other Muslims.  Anyone who gets upset over this cute dog needs to get a life. Adolf Hitler finally returns to Berlin

Before Adolf Hitler killed himself in April 1945 he explained to his aides that he was determined not to fall into the hands of the Russians — and land up as the freak exhibit in a Moscow waxworks. ( Adolf Hitler finally returns to Berlin  )
As luck would have it, Hitler — or, at least, a waxen effigy — has now been put on display in Berlin, a short stroll away from his former bunker.
Thanks to Madame Tussauds, which has just opened a new affiliate in Berlin, Germans can at last view a realistic model of the Führer. The suspicion, though, is that he will bring nothing but trouble.
To ensure that the wax Führer does not inspire neo-Nazi pilgrimages, Madame Tussauds has cordoned off the dummy and imposed a no-touch rule. You can kiss Robbie Williams or even Angela Merkel, but not Hitler; nor can you pose for a picture with him. There are CCTV cameras and the London-based company has also taken the precaution of moulding a very shrivelled Führer. Unlike the Hitler model in London, he is shown as a distinctly unvigorous character: a hunched, brooding man sitting behind his desk, apparently contemplating whether to first poison his alsatian dog, Blondie, and then his wife, Eva Braun, or vice versa. Behind him there is a map of the Europe which his troops once occupied. It would take a very determined neo-Nazi indeed to get a happy snap before being hustled out by the security guards.
The Jewish community is divided over the decision to place Hitler in a museum that is essentially designed to entertain rather than inform.
(  I am not sure about this I  hope when children and others see this display they will be told or reminded what this evil man did and tried to do to this world. We must never let another Holocaust  happen. Lets not forget all it takes for evil to happen is for good people to do nothing.)

Obama: Service to be a cornerstone of presidency

Barack Obama urged people Wednesday to look past the "bustle and busyness" of their everyday lives this Fourth of July weekend to find a way to help make the American dream real not just for themselves, but for all.

The call for service is part of a flag-draped week focused on God, country, veterans and freedom. They are larger-than-life themes, all prominent in the successful campaigns of President Bush and aimed at introducing Obama to Americans who know little about the presumed Democratic nominee — or who may be skeptical based on what they've heard.

To Obama, the problem is not that Americans are not willing to serve. It's that they have neither been asked aggressively enough nor given enough opportunities. In a clear slap to Bush, he decried that Americans eager to pitch in after the 2001 attacks were merely "asked to shop."

His solution is to promise repeated calls for American sacrifice as president and, to put teeth behind that, he has proposed a major expansion of government national service programs, first unveiled in Iowa in December, that would cost $3.5 billion a year. His campaign said he would fund this effort with savings from ending the war in Iraq and by canceling a new tax break for multinational corporations.
(What is it going to take for those on the left to see the answer to our problems will never come from more government programs. (Read more on this issue here.)

Problem With Faith-Based Programs

Commentator Cal Thomas said in a  radio commentary he had a problem when President Bush first brought up how government could help faith based programs and he still has problems now that Obama wants to add more to it.
The problem as Cal sees it, is  too often faith based ministries will start trusting in government instead of God and then to keep getting help from Uncle Sam they will compromise their main message. If you like listen to the whole commentary
right here.

Cal is right they should depend on God and should never back down from what they believe.

Elian Gonzalez back in the headlines

His teacher in the small Cuban city of Cardenas describes him as modest, down-to-earth and a role model for his classmates. "Elian Gonzalez is very humane, supportive, and takes on each task with maturity," he said, adding proudly that Elian won first place in the last municipal swimming competition.

Those qualities, I'm sure, have come in handy for this young Cuban boy who eight years ago became the symbol of a power struggle between the communist government of Fidel Castro and Miami's Cuban exile community. The boy was allowed to return to the island nation with his father months after his mother died while crossing the Florida straits.

Elian has once again made headlines as he became, at 14 years of age, a member of the Young Communist Union of Cuba. As he was sworn in with some 18,000 other young Cubans, he said to Fidel and Raul Castro on behalf of the group, "You can count on us; we will never let you down."

Those words must certainly be hard to swallow for the family who was at the center of the custody battle with his father in early 2000.

(The above is part of a column written by Maria Elena Salinas. It is sad to see what has happened  to a boy who for sure would have had a different life if Janet Reno and Bill Clinton had not ordered a  midnight raid on a peaceful family who were preparing for Easter. I am still hoping and praying that soon Cuba will become a free nation. Read all of the above column Elian Gonzalez back in the headlines.)

Why No Posting Power Out

Those of you who have  wondered  why until yesterday I had not posted in a few days. The answer you will find in this posting.
We had a terrible storm Friday and  were without power until  Sunday  afternoon about 2:50 P.M. USA Central time.
Lots of trees have been knocked down and some power lines are down too. Many people here in Omaha, Nebraska  have been without power. Sadly two souls were killed in the city next to us in the state of  Iowa. They were sitting in  a car Friday night. Keep their families in your prayers or thoughts along with all those impacted by this terrible storm.
We did have some hail damage to a table and some chairs on our deck. I am not sure if our insurance will cover it.
(Below  is part of a story from our local paper. As a line of severe thunderstorms approaches Omaha, weather warning sirens have sounded throughout the city.Wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph have been reported in Saunders and Douglas Counties.
Hail as large as 1.75 inches was reported in Saunders County at about 4:30 p.m.
Tree limbs were reported downed by the storm as it moved into the metro area.
Power was reported out in various areas of the city.
These storms were located along a line extending from Kennard to Valley to Mead in eastern Nebraska.
(Read  more about this terrible storm, storm updates. Also view some pictures of what the storm did below.)

Politically motivated law stifles religious leaders' freedom of speech

The IRS is stifling the free speech rights of religious leaders in a world where most Americans understand that the intersection of faith and politics is a well-recognized part of this nation's culture and heritage.
The problem: a 54-year-old federal tax law that prevents religious leaders from truly exercising their constitutionally-protected free speech rights when they act in their official capacity as a pastor or head of a religious, tax-exempt organization.

In 1954, then-Senator Lyndon Johnson introduced an amendment that became law that barred tax-exempt groups - including churches - from participating in political activity. Johnson sought political retribution against an opponent who was assisted in his campaign by two non-profit organizations.

Religious leaders are muzzled by the IRS law. While they can speak out for themselves in their "individual capacity", they are barred from either supporting or opposing a political candidate in their role as head of a tax-exempt organization.
(The above is part of a column written by JAY SEKULOW. If you like to read the whole column go here
Below is a column written on the same issue but with a different take It is written by the Rev. Barry Lynn.)
Houses of worship exist to fill spiritual needs and bring people closer to God. But many offer much more: Their soup kitchens provide meals to impoverished families, they give counseling to couples and they sponsor youth groups, among other endeavors. But one thing churches should never do is act as political brokers. But simply, handing down a list of candidate endorsements is not the role of our faith communities. Clergy have no business acting like party bosses.
Recently, the Alliance Defense Fund, a legal organization formed by far-right television and radio preachers, announced that it is urging pastors to violate this law by endorsing candidates from the pulpit on Sunday, September 28.
Americans understand that people go to church to connect with God, not to take part in a political convention.
Houses of worship exist to save souls, not save some politician's campaign. The American people have not asked for, and do not want, their clergy to issue orders on how to behave in the voting booth.
(Read the rest of  Rev. Lynn's  column right here.
Now I believe spiritual leaders can and should address the moral issues of our times, however no Pastor or Rabbi should back or oppose anyone running for office. Instead preaches should address spiritual things like telling ther flock to pray for our leaders and showing them what it means to follow King Jesus. Should there be a law which says they can't do that is another issue. When I go to church I don't want hear about who I should vote for but I want hear about my Savior and what the Bible says.)

Fireworks injuries rise

Three years ago, Josh, then 13, suffered massive, life-threatening injuries when an illegal commercial-grade firework struck him as he swam in a Ralston pool over the Fourth of July weekend.
The injuries nearly killed him and changed his life forever. But Josh, 16, hasn't let it stop him from enjoying fireworks. He said he just uses them safely.

"I've lit them every year since then," he said. "I still go buy them, I light them off —just the legal ones."

Safe and legal, that's what officials wish for Nebraskans, who have seen more than their share of fireworks-related injuries in recent years. Injuries have increased since 1991, compared to a general downward trend nationally. And in 2006, Nebraska accounted for two out of the nation's 11 fireworks-related deaths. The Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office
(I love what the 4th of July is all about, but I do believe some people go to nuts over letting fireworks off. Read more of this story right here.)

Christians No One Path to Salvation

Americans of every religious stripe are considerably more tolerant of the beliefs of others than most of us might have assumed, according to a new poll released Monday. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life last year surveyed 35,000 American, and found that 70% of respondents agreed with the statement "Many religions can lead to eternal life." Even more remarkable was the fact that 57% of Evangelical Christians were willing to accept that theirs might not be the only path to salvation, since most Christians historically have embraced the words of Jesus, in the Gospel of John, that "no one comes to the Father except through me." Even as mainline churches had become more tolerant, the exclusivity of Christianity's path to heaven has long been one of the Evangelicals' fundamental tenets. The new poll suggests a major shift, at least in the pews.

(This is an outrage and shows that people aren't reading their Bibles and sadly even followers of Jesus aren't reading their Bibles. As my friend Cal Thomas pointed out in a radio commentary yesterday, these souls must think Jesus is a liar because through-out the Bible He said He was the only way to God. In John 14:6 Jesus said I am the way and the truth and no one comes to God the father but through me. If you got a problem with that  don't get upset with me take it up with the one who said it. Read more on this story Christians: No One Path to Salvation and listen to the commentary Cal Thomas did  Wednesday June 25, 2008.)

Dobson accuses Obama of 'distorting' Bible

As Barack Obama broadens his outreach to evangelical voters, one of the movement's biggest names, James Dobson, accuses the likely Democratic presidential nominee of distorting the Bible and pushing a "fruitcake interpretation" of the Constitution.

The criticism, to be aired Tuesday on Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization's headquarters here, said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public policy at Focus on the Family.
"Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?" Obama said. "Would we go with James Dobson's or Al Sharpton's?" referring to the civil rights leader.

Dobson took aim at examples Obama cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy — chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, "a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application."

"Folks haven't been reading their Bibles," Obama said.

( I wonder if Obama has been reading his Bible. I wonder after watching  the Pastor he sat under for over 20 years which preached things that went against God's Word and his support for things which go 100% against the Bible. Obama also doesn't understand that parts of the Bible were written  to teach us different things. The sermon on the Mount was written to show followers of Christ how they should act not the way a government should act.  Even though Dr. Dobson may be right on what the Bible says I wish all   evangelical  leaders would  stay out of politics leave that to the everyday  evangelical  not those who preach every week, or are on the radio everyday. Dobson has done a great work with Focus on the Family. He needs to get back to that work and remove himself  from the political world. Pray to Save Marriage

What is the best way to save marriage and to fight the ill of same sex marriage?
Yes, we should speak out, and call our nation to true Godly  repentance. However same sex marriage is now legal in CA. The voters of CA. will have a chance this coming Fall to once again pass a law which will state that marriage is to be between one  man and one woman. I heard a radio commentary today which is asking people of faith  who believe  in a God that moves when  people call on Him to pray. The power voters have is limited but God's power is never limited. If you like listen to the same radio commentary I heard right here.

George Carlin Death's Impact

Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television. Some People Are Stupid. Stuff. People I Can Do Without. George Carlin, who died of heart failure Sunday at 71, leaves behind not only a series of memorable routines, but a legal legacy: His most celebrated monologue, a frantic, informed riff on those infamous seven words, led to a Supreme Court decision on broadcasting offensive language.

(It is sad when anyone dies. However this should remind all of us that  some- day  we all will have to face the one who made us and He will ask us  if we have responded to His plan of Salvation made possible by His son Jesus. This news should also remind us we are impacting others in this world for good things or bad things. Read more of the above story George Carlin mourned.)

Fonda Blames Bush for kids having kids

I could not believe it but yesterday on CNN news Jane Fonda said that President Bush and his policy on abstinence are to blame for those high school kids making a pact to get pregnant. (Read the post I did a few days ago High School Teens Had Pact To Get Pregnant .)
News for Jane if those teens had  followed abstinence they would not be pregnant. Also since they wanted to have babies I am not sure they would have taken any kind of birthday control.

I am still sad every-time I hear Jane bushing for something sinful. This is a lady who became born again years back but then said in a book that Jesus was not the only way. Yes followers of Christ can have views from the left but they  must agree Jesus is the only way and they should not back things which go against the Bible and morals. Watch the video of Jane blaming Bush Fonda.

Hagel says he'd consider VP offer from Obama

Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said Friday he would consider serving as Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's running mate if asked, but he doesn't expect to be on any ticket. Hagel's vocal criticism of the Bush administration since the 2003 invasion of Iraq has touched off speculation that if Obama were to pick a Republican running mate, it might be Hagel. Hagel said in an interview with The Associated Press that after devoting much of his life to his country - in the Senate and the U.S. Army - he would have to consider any offer.

(Hagel says he'd consider VP offer from Obama . Hagel saying this proves his heart is no longer with the Republican party or the right. By the way I am pretty sure Obama will not win my home state of Nebraska with or without Hagel. Hagel is no longer backed by most in Nebraska. He has said he might not back McCain because of his  stand on the war yet he might think about being a VP for a man who is on the radical left.)

Tax Money to fight gangs with golf

The Justice Department gave $500,000 to the World Golf Foundation. The foundation’s beneficiary program is called  “First Tee.” It’s designed to get youngsters interested in that most civilized of sporting passions, golf.

Employees in the Justice Department had rated the program way down on their list. But the administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, J. Robert Flores, awarded the money anyway, ignoring programs that employees had ranked as much more effective.

“We need something really attractive to engage the gangs and the street kids, golf is the hook,” said the questionable administrator in question.

Yeah, right. Remember the midnight basketball leagues, supported as a brainy idea by Bill Clinton? Well, at least lots of inner city kids like basketball. Golf seems something of a stretch.

(The above is part of a commentary I just heard Paul Jacob do.  By the way President Bush is the honorary chairman of First Tee. Perhaps that is why this came about. No matter why this is an outrage. Government should stay out of this. Leave changing gang members up to churches and  groups which offer spiritual answers and don't use tax payers money. Read the while commentary by Paul Jacob did Building a network for liberty or listen to it  audio file.)
