Barack Obama wants to be the "Abortion President

It looks more and more like Barack Obama wants to be the  "Abortion President" as he names one pro. abortion  hardline activist after another to his  leadership team. The latest looks like it will be  neurosurgeon and CNN medical reporter Sanjay Gupta to become the next Surgeon General.

Here's the story from LifeNews.com. Incoming president Barack Obama appears to be expanding on the steady stream of abortion advocates he is appointing to top administration posts. His latest choice appears to be pro-abortion CNN medical reporter Sanjay Gupta to become the next Surgeon General.

Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon and considered a media celebrity of sorts for his role in reporting on medical matters for the massive cable news network.

Although Gupta spends most of his time reporting rather than opining on the topics of the day, he appears to favor abortions.

Gupta has been accused of supporting abortions for disabled unborn children, opposing protections for pro-life medical professionals, and denying the risks associated with the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug.

In a December report for CNN, Gupta appeared to join abortion advocates in condemning the Bush administration for approving new regulations that offer more protections for doctors and medical centers not wanting to be involved in abortions.

Frank Schaeffer is Pro Life and wants to Keep Abortion Lawful

Frank Schaeffer's parents, Francis and Edith, were best-selling authors who were instrumental in linking the evangelical community with the anti-abortion movement.  (  Pro-Life — And In Favor Of Keeping Abortion Legal : )

But after coming of age as an evangelist and helping to organize religious fundamentalists politically, Schaeffer had a crisis of faith: Though he is pro-life, he decided that abortion should remain legal.

Shortly after the presidential election, Schaeffer wrote an open letter on the Huffington Post explaining his views and urging President-elect Barack Obama to support programs that provide care for pregnant women and reduce the number of abortions.

(It looks like Frank keeps going down the wrong road. How can one believe abortion is wrong but still  want it to remain legal. Pray that Frank will come back to the faith of his father and take that faith every place he goes in life.)

Bishops concerned about election results

Fears about laws and changes in regulations on abortion that might advance under a new Democratic-run Congress and White House are the central focus of a statement approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Nov. 12 during its annual fall meeting.

The majority of the 830-word, untitled statement focuses on concerns about the possible passage of the Freedom of Choice Act, calling it "an evil law that would further divide our country" and adding that the church "should be intent on opposing evil." Full Story.

(While I amen the concern of these Bishops. I also believe the Catholic Church is losing it's impact. As was pointed out by my friend Cal Thomas in a radio commentary he did last week  (Cal Thomas  radio commentary for November 13, 2008)  that church is not having the impact it once had.)

Archbishop weighs in on the election

With Election Day just around the corner, Omaha, Nebraska  Archbishop Elden Curtiss is weighing in on the battle for the Catholic vote with a letter that implies Catholics should not vote for Barack Obama.

Curtiss' letter, to be read at Masses or inserted in church bulletins at parishes this weekend, does not mention Obama, John McCain or any other candidate by name.

The Rev. Joseph Taphorn, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Omaha, said the letter is not an endorsement of any candidate or meant to tell parishioners how to vote; rather, it is guidance to local Catholics on the principles of their faith as they apply to voting.

Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, supports a woman's right to make reproductive decisions and supports keeping abortion legal. McCain, the Republican nominee, opposes allowing abortions except in cases of rape, incest or a threat to the life of the mother and believes that Roe v. Wade — the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal — should be overturned, though he opposed overturning Roe v. Wade during the 2000 primary campaign.

Curtiss' letter says "the very first right we must protect, if all human rights are to be protected, is the right to life for the unborn. Those who do not understand or accept this basic human right are unworthy of our trust."

(While for the most part I want election stuff to stay  out of the churches I do believe Catholic People and all of us of faith and those who care about the right to life should look at these issues before we  vote. Read more of the above story right here
and read the whole letter ArchbishopsVotingStatement.pdf.)

Most pro-life platform in national party history

Senator John McCain's pick of Governor Sarah Palin to be the GOP vice presidential nominee is historic. Coupled with the GOP platform he enthusiastically embraced, Mr. McCain has completely changed the game, and put Senator Barack Obama in a difficult situation.

Less heralded, Mr. McCain has embraced a solidly conservative Republican Party Platform. As a platform committee vice chairman, I can attest to the document's conservative foundation. It is the most pro-life platform in national party history. And it is a sterling commitment to the sanctity of every human life.

His choice of Mrs. Palin shows his commitment to those bedrock moral principles, as she is living proof of a commitment to life. Many now know that she gave birth to a son whom she knew since the fourth month of pregnancy would be born with Down's syndrome. She chose to have the baby. And with words that should move many to tears, she said that when she looks at her baby boy, "I see perfection." I doubt Mrs. Palin would ever say a question of fundamental belief is above her pay grade.
