In a tiny rural county in the Evergreen State, a public school had required random drug tests of its sports participants. Since not everyone wanted to pee to play, the case found its way to the court. In mid-March the issue was decided by the state’s Supreme Court.
Some think random drug testing of children is a great idea, liberties and constitutions be damned. I prefer freedom.
(The above is part of a radio commentary Paul Jacob did today. The majority of the time I agree with Mr. Jacob but not today. I believe there are many ways to fight drug abuse and help kids who are using them. The fact is too many kids in our culture and in government schools are using them. To help them you first need to know they are using them. If it was up to me I would test kids in all schools not just those in sports. Kids do have some rights but not the right to use a drug. Read the whole commentary Jacob's did Privacy Means No Random Drug Tests or listen to it audio. Now the goal in doing these tests shouldn't be just to punish kids who use drugs to help them which could include tough love.)
